YNG ATCT is an ATC-7 Level Tower/Radar facility. YNG ATCT primarily provides radar and tower services to general aviation and military aircraft for student pilots and pilot currency training at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, as well as a number of satellite airports. While YNG ATCT currently has minimal scheduled air carrier service, Allegiant Airlines has scheduled airline service to Orlando Sanford Airport. YNG is also home to the 910th Airlift Wing of the United States Air Force Reserve with 12 state-of-the-art C-130 aircraft based here. Military aircraft from different bases come to YNG to use a military assault landing zone and practice Night Vision Goggle (NVG) operations under complete airport lights-out conditions.
Hours of Operation:
Radar Services are available from our Approach Control from 0600 to 2400L.
YNG's tower is operational 24 hours per day.
YNG is on the list of towers that the FAA wants to close during the hours 12am-5am.
Equipment:
ASR-11 Radar with 3 scopes in Tracon, 1 D-Brite in Tower, all with ARTS-IIE
capabilities. IDS4 displays at all positions. The FAA has informed member(s) of Congress of their intent to collocate/consolidate the radar approach control with a new facility to be built somewhere in the CLE area and have the following facilities all in one building in 2013: TOL, MFD, CAK, YNG, CLE.
